U-Haul really makes their money on mileage.  The truck itself is only $20 for a 24 hour period.  But the mileage, whew, that adds up quickly.  Didn't realize it but I drove almost 50 miles today in two hauls. Mileage adds up.  50 miles times $0.79 is $40.  Plus the $20 for the truck.  Then they charge you extra if you return the vehicle with less fuel than it had when you took it, which means that you have to stop and put fuel in the truck.  So you're looking at a $70 to $75 or more expenditure for moving just a few items.  I wished I'd had this data aforehand.  U-Haul also charges a "Rental Tax" which looks like a 6% to 8% tax.
